Our "high school" class has expanded to include junior high school students as well as upperclassfolk! In this forum, we ask questions and talk openly and honestly about our faith and personal faith journeys.
Spring 2008!
Our current activities revolve around studying the basic history of the Bible - who wrote it, why were certain stories included and others left out, and who made the decisions about the stories we study as Christians today.
We are discussing modern values, the connection between our lives today and the lives of historical Christians, and what we would choose to share with both our contemporaries and our successors.
Culminating these activities, we are compiling our own "bibles," comprised of modern and ancient stories (including music, film, literature, and other popular media), and discussing the lessons promoted by our choices.
These activities are helping us to better understand how and why the Biblical canon developed and shaped our faith as growing Christians.
What's next???
We look forward to Fall 2008 and continuing our faith exploration activities. We plan to compare different Christian sects and work to understand what makes us similar and different from our Christian peers.
In Spring 2009, we will expand our studies to include world religions, and compare our place in the world as American Christians in the UCC tradition with the lives of persons from diverse faith and cultural populations.
